Why use these counters

Nothing leaves your browser

Your text is counted on your own device. It isn’t uploaded, logged or used for analytics, and it’s only kept if you ask the page to remember it.

Accurate for every language

Emoji and accented letters count once, and Chinese, Japanese and Thai are split into real words, using the same Unicode rules as your browser.

Platform limits built in

See whether your text fits an X post, a text message, a meta title or description, an Instagram caption or a limit of your own.

Many online counters send what you paste to their servers, where it can be logged or analysed. These tools never do: open your browser’s network tab while you type and you’ll see nothing is sent. Making something to share? Try the free QR code generator or browse all tools.

Frequently asked questions

Which counter should I use?

Both pages use the same counter and show every statistic. The word counter leads with words, reading time and keyword density, which suits essays, articles and speeches. The character counter leads with characters and the limits for X, SMS, meta titles and descriptions and Instagram, which suits posts, messages and SEO.

Is my text uploaded or stored?

No. Everything is counted by JavaScript in your browser, and your text is never sent to a server, logged or tracked. You can check by opening your browser’s network tab while you type. If you turn on “Remember my text on this device”, a copy is kept in your browser’s local storage on this device only; Clear or turning the option off deletes it.

Is it free?

Yes. There’s no sign-up, word limit or paid plan, and no adverts. The counting happens on your own device, so there are no servers to pay for. It works with very long documents too: a 1 MB paste is counted in the background in a second or two.
